Abstract
Objective: When sensori-neurally hearing impaired people wear hearing aids, most of them complain unfamiliar speech sounds. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of wearing time on auditory acclimatization to amplified sounds.

Methods: Subjects were consisted of 13 adults (6 males and 7 females) with sensori-neural hearing loss, who were first-time hearing aid users. The auditory acclimatization was measured with respect to uncomfortable loudness level (UCL), dynamic range (DR) and speech discrimination scores (SDS) before and after fitting hearing aids.

Results: Data showed that although SDSs were not significantly increased, UCLs and DRs were significantly increased after 4 to 8 weeks.

Conclusion: These results suggest that it take at least one month to be acclimatized to amplified sounds for newly fitted hearing aid users.
